'Dancing with the Stars' 2013 winner: Kellie Pickler

The winner of the sixteenth season of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ is country music singer Kellie Pickler, who narrowly beat another female finalist with slightly higher scores to win the mirror ball trophy.
Pickler and her partner Derek Hough earned perfect scores for both their quickstep and freestyle routines, but Disney channel star Zendaya Coleman and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy earned one point more than Pickler and Hough in the cha cha relay.
Picker performed her quickstep with perfect precision, but it was her raw, emotional freestyle performance that helped Pickler win the ballroom dancing competition.
In past seasons of ‘Dancing with the Stars, successful freestyle performances have been theatrical displays involving flashy costumes and complicated set designs. Pickler’s freestyle stood out because Hough chose to focus exclusively on Pickler’s outstanding technique.
The dance brought judge Carrie Ann Inaba and Hough to tears.
“You just bared your soul on the dance floor and it was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen,” Inaba said after giving Pickler a big hug.
Coleman, the youngest contestant to ever compete in the show, placed second in the competition. Superbowl champion Jacoby Jones and Olympic gold medalist Aly Raisman ranked third and fourth place, respectively.
