Is Love Necessary For A Marriage To Work?

The new law put in place by the Lagos State Government to protect pregnant women and their babies got me thinking seriously about the importance of marriage and the possibility of people getting married to those they feel absolutely nothing for.  I think it is time for men to start taking responsibilities for their actions.

        Come to think of it, why would any guy in his right senses sow a seed and refuse to harvest it? some even go as far as beating their girlfriends after receiving the news of their bountiful harvest. 

What is marriage?  Besides the promise to only have sex with this one person for the rest of your life, share money, living quarters and your life with them. What exactly does marriage mean? In a room full of people, everyone would have different definitions. Some would say that it is nothing more than a contract between two individuals. There are elements that can make that contract void. In a society where people who barely know each other join game shows to win love and marriage, can a successful marriage exist between two individuals who are not in love? One would also have to define what they feel a successful marriage is. Some would say it is successful if both parties are financially stable or if they are both benefiting form the arrangement in some way.
